World Scale Units

  • Hi Michael,

To ensure your 3D objects remain true to size:

    1. Note that the units Lens Studio uses is centimeters
      • So, you should work in Lens Studio & your 3D tool as if the units are centimeters
    2. Use our native enhanced Surface tracking
      1. Select your camera and make sure "Use Native AR" is enabled and Surface is selected on the Device Tracking component
        • More information on tracking modes can be found here
    3. Make sure the Scale checkbox isn't checked on your scene's manipulate component (if you have one)
      • This will make it so the user can't change the object's scale

Let me know if you have any further questions about this and I'd be happy to further assist.

    Cheers,
    Kaitlyn

  • Hey Kaitlyn,

is it still true that the world units are measured in centimeters?
To me it looks like the unit is rather a meter.

If I import (from blender) a plane that was measuerd 1m by 1meter and then generate a sphere in lensstudio... when I shift that sphere in z for 10 units, it leaves the square far behind.

couold you elaborate on how the units in worldspace are handeled and or converted, please?

    thanks a lot

  • Hi,

I have a similar question. I have a 3D object measured on a metric scale (1 unit = 1 m). I converted this to the 1cm scale within Lensstudio (1 unit = 1 cm). However, the scale still seems to be not correct. I then tried a simple test using a 1 unit box
and placed it onto one of the standard markers (21cm height and length). However, the box covers the complete marker not only a tiny bit as you would expect if the units are 1 cm (as shown in the attached picture). Does anyone know what is the best way to work with a metric scale and how to convert it.

    Thanks,

    Stefanie
