I do this every now and then, push an early version just to get the snapcode and then push updates as needed.

Yes, once a Snapcode for a lens has been generated it will remain the same through updates.

I had the same issue! When you go to share your Snap, just hit the "Send To" button and then "Our Story" should show up in the list of stories. Here is a more detailed description of the process.
