Is it possible to make a lens to stop head tremor?

  • You could try the face tracker lens https://www.snapchat.com/unlock/?type=SNAPCODE&uuid=0a69d28122a34bfabe8ddb20061c2af6&metadata=01

This should keep their face steady, but it would probably move the tremor to the background behind the person.

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried the face tracker lens. It was very interesting and a helpful start for me. I'm new to all this.

Even though this lens made my head stay in one place, the head movements were still noticeable. For instance, when your head tilts up, more of your chin shows and less of your forehead and hair. So I've looked at some of the facilities in Lens Studio. It looks like there are lots of possibilities! Perhaps a dynamic lens that stretches the lower part of the face and shrinks the upper part of the face when the head tilts up, and the reverse on tilting down. The API might be useful here. Or maybe there's a way to dynamically create more of a 3d model of the head, so when the head tilts up, it can be rendered looking straight. Also intentional movements that were not the result of the tremor (say any repetitive movement of between .2 and .4 seconds), would have to be allowed to go through normally.

It's a lot for me to learn and try all this, though it is incredibly interesting! Is there a way to directly contact the developer of a lens who seems to show that they might have the expertise to work on this (based on the lenses they created)? And is there a way to direct message you - or anyone on the forum? Do you have any suggestions of developers to contact who might be able to help with this? Do you have any other ideas of how I can make this lens happen?

    Thanks again for your help!

    -Joe

  • Try making a screen image and then getting a face texture and set it as the texture. Although, if the you can't see all of their facial features at any point, the face will no longer be visible so outside of that, there is nothing you can really do. If I think of anything I'll come back here and let you know. Best of Luck!

  • I have some ideas on how to achieve this. I'm not sure it will work as well as might be hoped if my idea works at all, but I'm going to play around with it. It might be a week or so before I have anything though.

  • That's great. Looking forward to hearing how you make out!

  • I've been looking into this, but if it is possible to reduce head tremors with Lens Studio, it is beyond my capabilities. To keep any semblance of the original image I think you might need to go with a machine learning based approach, but I don't have the expertise to do so.

There are ways to have just the face present on the screen and stable (minus lighting variations due to head movements), but it doesn't blend well back into the scene if the whole head is moving.

  • Thank you Mike for trying! If you built anything, I'd love to see whatever code you created. This is all so new to me that seeing any attempt is fascinating!.
