Material Editor: Interpolator
As indicated in the help for shaders

an 'interpolated' surface position connected to the pixel shader looks like this:
When I try to recreate the example, however, I don't get any color gradient.
How do I get the soft gradients out, did I do something wrong in the material editor?

Thanks for the helpful answer, the attached shader (with a 1x1 plane) solves my problem.
