How to create image object 100% programatically

  • Hi, Marco!

    Here is how you can do it :

    //@input Asset.Texture[] textures
    //@input SceneObject parent
    //@input Asset.Material materialToCopy

    for (var i = 0; i < script.textures.length; i++){

    var newSceneObject = global.scene.createSceneObject("Image Object " + i);
    newSceneObject.setParent(script.parent);
    newSceneObject.layer = script.parent.layer;

    var screenTransform = newSceneObject.createComponent("Component.ScreenTransform");

    var image = newSceneObject.createComponent("Component.Image");
    image.addMaterial(script.materialToCopy.clone())
    image.mainMaterial.mainPass.baseTex = script.textures[i];
    }

    Example project is here

    Let me know if there are any questions!

  • Thanks, Olha.

    Is there a limit to how many images I can create programatically?

    If I'm making a game that creates things on the fly based on user interaction will there be a problem if I create say hundreds of image objects?

    thanks

  • I think couple hundreds should be fine, as soon as you don't exceed maximum array sizes.

    But stay reasonable and watch your lens RAM! :)

  • I noticed this only works if the script is attached to a frame region. I can't make it work if I attach it to a scene object. What should I change to make it work ?

    thank you

  • HI, Marco! To make it work for Image Object please comment out all the lines that create screen transform component and set its anchors. And set parent to be object, rendered to Perspective Camera

    This should work!
