3D hair
Hi Everyone,
I know people have asked before about creating 3D hair but I don't think they work for my particular set of requirements.
I have several long hairstyles I need to try to recreate somehow but getting them to occlude correctly is posing a bit of a problem..
I use the head binding to get my mesh to attach to the head as described in the tutorials but is there any way of getting the sorting order correct so that long braids at the back can be hidden behind the shoulders and face? Sometimes they appear in front which destroys the illusion. Would the best way be to break up the hair into parts so we have the top part (sort of like a hat) and the two braids at the back with occluder meshes for the face and upper body?
I've attached a grab of what I have currently.
Also, what is the 'thing' with the hat or hair meshes etc animating or moving when the eyes blink? I take it that is a known about issue right? Its even in the latest Baseball cap template lens. It happens when you bind anything to the 'head center'. It's such an annoying error I thought i must have been doing something wrong and spent ages trying to figure out how to fix it.
Thanks in advance!
Mike
I wish you luck Mike. I have repeatedly asked this very same question and no one ever answers. I hope someone does, I would very much like to learn about importing realistic hair and how to import it.
Hi Mike G.,
We are having our engineers check out these issues and find solutions. Please look out for a private message from Zendesk soon. We'll be sure to post the solution publicly in this thread as well!

Hi Mike,
The easiest way to occlude the braids behind the shoulders will be to use a Mask Texture on your Camera so that it doesn't draw on top of the shoulders.
1. Create a Shoulder segmentation texture: Resources Panel > Add New > Texture > Segmentation Texture > Portrait Shoulder
2. Select the new texture, make sure "Invert Mask" is enabled
3. Select your main Camera and set "Mask Texture" to your segmentation texture
Now, your main camera won't render over the shoulders, so the braids won't show up in front.
There are a few other ways to do this that give more flexibility, but they're more complicated to set up so let's go with the easiest first. Let me know if you need any more help with this!
