Daz 3D Export Settings

  • Hi Dominique,

We currently have 3D Object Export Guides for four different softwares: Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, and 3ds Max. That said, I know Daz is not one of the four we have guides for, so I'll let the engineers know you desire for such a guide.

    Cheers,
    Kaitlyn

  • That would be outstanding @Kaitlyn.  I have a lot of Daz assets I could use if I could only figure out how to export them.

  • Hey Dominique,

Have you seen this guide for how to export to Unity? It should apply for Lens Studio purposes, just note that the hair shaders won't port over so well as it's not currently supported in Lens Studio.

    Cheers,
    Kaitlyn

  • Unfortunately I do not use Unity.

  • Hey Dominique,

You do not have to use Unity; you only have to use this guide to export as if the model were being primed for Unity. Then once it's exported from Daz, you can import that model into Lens Studio.

    Cheers,
    Kaitlyn

  • Thank you for the response Kaitlyn.  I am afraid that does not help me.  I need to know the export settings in Daz.  The output binary and export options in particular.

Here is an example of what the export settings look like.  If I knew the correct settings, I could figure it out from there.

  • I will try the export settings on that guide when I get home this evening.  I will let you know if it worked.  I guess I should have tried it before my previous post.

  • Okay I tried it and it did not work.  I get same errors as before.  It appears as if my textures are too big.

I made a Pittsburg Steelers helmet that I want to bring into Lens Studio.  I made it a prop instead of a figure.

Here is what the logger says.

    17:36:03 Start FBX import: C:/Users/Domin/Desktop/Steelers.fbm/Helmet.fbx
    17:36:03 Resolution of the image should be less than 2048 x 2048 : C:/Users/Domin/Desktop/Steelers.fbm/Helmet.fbm/SteelersA.jpg
    17:36:04 Resolution of the image should be less than 2048 x 2048 : C:/Users/Domin/Desktop/Steelers.fbm/Helmet.fbm/sHelmet02.jpg
    17:36:07 Resolution of the image should be less than 2048 x 2048 : C:/Users/Domin/Desktop/Steelers.fbm/Helmet.fbm/Steelers 4.jpg
    17:36:09 Resolution of the image should be less than 2048 x 2048 : C:/Users/Domin/Desktop/Steelers.fbm/Helmet.fbm/Steelers.jpg
17:36:12 FBX file C:/Users/Domin/Desktop/Steelers.fbm/Helmet.fbx successfully imported

It says its successfully imported but it doesn't show up in LS.  BTW, I did try and resizing the textures in Photoshop and that did not work either.  There is no option in the Daz Export process that allows me to resize them.

  • Hey Dominique,

I'll follow up with you offline so we can further investigate.

  • UPDATE:  I had to manually resize the textures while still in Daz.  Then I exported with them under the 2048 x 2048 limitation.

It actually worked. I noticed when it did it was crazy high in the air and I had to reposition it lower.

Now I have to figure out how to get it attached to the head.  It's just showing still.

  • UPDATE 2:

So I got it to stay attached to the head.  I also turned off the mouthpiece, chin guard, and visor.  So it looks correct.  However I cannot get the settings right.  Its not fitting on my head.  Its too small and in front of my face.

Even if I could get it to fit on my head the back of the helmet isnt transparent.

  • Hey Dominique,

Have you tried using out 3D Objects Template with your object? The 3D Objects Template shows you how to attach 3D objects to a face or multiple faces.

    Best,
    Kaitlyn

  • Sorry so late to comment but yes I did figure it out.  I've been making a lot of content since.  Now I just need to figure out how to animate things in Daz and bring it into LS.

  • Woohoo - glad to hear it Dominique!

  • Can you assist me with the animation portion of it?  I cant seem to figure out how to get my animations out of Daz and into LS.

  • Hey Dominique,

Have you checked out our playing 3D animations guide yet?

    Cheers,

  • Yes, I did and it did not pertain to Daz.  It needs a completely different tutorial.

  • You do not need to use Unity; you best have to use this manual to export as though the model were being primed for Unity help. Then as soon as it is exported from Daz, you may import that model into Lens Studio.
