When i imported my first model for a lens it showed up fine, colors were how they are supposed to be. but sometimes ill import a model and the colors will be very dark or the whole model will be black and the light tool doesnt change anything, its as if it takes away all the color. please help, thanks!

Since you can see some coloring but it is very dark makes me think it's lighting related.Can you try adding an "Uniform Ambient" light to your scene? This will give your entire scene a base value of lighting that is ambient and non-directional. To add a "Uniform Ambient" light first select "Add New -> Light" from the Object panel. Then, with the light selected, in the Inspector panel set the Light Type to "Uniform Ambient". Then, tune the intensity of the light to add more ambient lighting to your model. FYI, while the Intensity slider is capped at one, you can enter values greater than one if you need to push the light even farther.
