Devin Baeten (About Me) 👋
Hey everyone! 👋
My name is Devin Baeten, a digital creator with a passion for creating exceptional user experiences online and in the physical world. I got interested in learning about AR about 6 months ago when I had seen recommended "Snapchat AR" tutorial videos on the YouTube homepage. Since I was 8 years old I've constantly been learning about the various ways in which I can create digitally. I've taught myself how to code an entire website, complete with a backend and all the server management geeky stuff. I've also learned video production, Photography and graphic design, etc. I've been doing this stuff forever and Snapchat's AR platform caught my eye as my next big endeavor in my creative design life.Â

As I said, I like to teach myself things. So it was no surprise that I only got through about 2 tutorial videos before I jumped into lens studio and got to work. Over the last six months I've become very comfortable with lens studio and I've even gotten rid of my awful habit of not referencing documentation on software. The lens studio support site has exceptional resources and I'm very impressed with the amount of people in this community willing to help out anyone who shares the interest.
I've published less lenses than other creators, however I prefer to spend a lot of time perfecting and testing my lenses before I submit them to make sure the end-user has the most optimal and seamless experience. I prioritize quality because over my many years on Snapchat, I've seen a lot of low-quality or broken lenses that I think give the app a less than ideal image.Â
I'm fueled by my constant urge to create and whenever I come up with a lens idea I go straight to lens studio and start prototyping. I have probably made near hundreds of test projects in lens studio that didn't make it to users, but rather helped improve my skills, and a lot of those 'test projects' get combined or evolved into a future lens.
I also really love that Snapchat's AR platform is constantly growing and new features are always a treat. I am currently training ML models and exploring their uses in lens Studio. Machine Learning is an area I never thought I'd learn how to use just a short year ago.
Snap's AR program has truly opened a new door in my life, AR is an area I'm growing more interested in each and every day. I am even considering a career path involved in Augmented Reality. I'm still only a high school student, but with the experience gained from something that seemed as simple as "making lenses" back six months ago when I started is truly incredible. At this point, producing AR content is a core interest of mine and I can't wait to see how much more I will learn say a year or two from now. Things in the tech world evolve rapidly, I can't wait to see what the next bug Lens Studio update will bring for me to learn!
