Tools to animate a 2D image and export as 3D

Phil Walton made a marker lens (https://www.snapchat.com/unlock/?type=SNAPCODE&uuid=AF32795F5A3A4217B2B5132A1C982FF7&metadata=01) that marks Alexander Hamilton on a currency note and animates the image.

I am new to 3D creations and was looking for tools and resources I can use to create something similar.

Essentially, I am looking for:

- A tool to animate a 2D image (like moving the lips/jaw)

- Tool to export that animation as a 3D object that I can import in Lens Studio

I am trying out Blender for now. Pls let me know if there's an easier way for this, or any resources you can throw away :)

Hi Chand,

You can make your Marker Lens a 2D Animation without having to create a 3D animation as well. To animate 2D instead of 3D models upon scanning the marker:
1. Add your GIF to the project by dragging and dropping it into the resources panel from your computer
2. Delete the 3D assets from the template in the Objects panel by right clicking on it, and pressing Delete.
3. In the Objects panel, select MarkerWithSnapcodeController
4. In the top left of the panel, press Add new > Sprite.
5. Select your new sprite in the Objects panel, then in the Inspector panel, press the Texture field
6. In the popup window, select your newly added sprite
7. Finally, in the Scene panel, resize and move your gif in relation to the marker
You can do this in your preferred 2D animation software. Let us know if you have additional questions.
