Setting VFX parameter from script graph

  • Hi Josh,

    The issue is that the way the graph is setup the "Set VFX Property" node doesn't know what type the "life" property is so when you type 5 into the inspector it interprets it as the string "5". There are two good ways to get this working how you want:

    • Connect a Number value to the "value" port. The easiest way to do this would be to add the "Constant Number" node, enter 5 in its inspector, then connect that.
    • The nicer way would be to drag and drop your VFXAsset into the script graph itself. This will create a "Constant Reference" node that refers to the VFXAsset instead of using an "Input" node. If you connect that constant reference to the "Set VFX Property" node then the node will be aware of all the properties on the VFX graph. You'll be able to select "life" from a dropdown and type the number 5 into its inspector.

  • Oh, I didn't know assets could be dropped into the graphs. That's good to know! Works like a charm :)

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hey! Is it possible to drive a vfx value by text script?

    I have a custom trigger and want it to drive a value in a vfx component

  • Yeah, something like this:

    script.vfx.asset.properties["yourParamName"] = 1234;
    It's in the interactive spawn example in the docs https://docs.snap.com/lens-studio/references/templates/world/vfx/

  • Thanks Josh :)

    It seems like we need to use the specific script in that example for sendDataToVFX to access properties, it would be helpful if it was noted in the API documentation for vfx
