PBR specifications?

  • There is a Photoshop texturing guide which walks through how the PBR textures works. You can find the guide here:

    https://lensstudio.snapchat.com/guides/3d/photoshop-texturing/

To summarize, there are three textures that make up PBR.

BaseColor - Defines the overall color of the material

Normal - Normal maps allow you to fake the illusion of depth and detail on a 3D model

MaterialParams - Material Params is probably the one that needs the most explaining. For optimization, it's three things baked into a single texture using color channels. In the Material Params texture, the Red channel represents Metallic, the Green channel represents Roughness and the Blue channel represents Ambient Occlusion. Follow the "Create a Material Params Texture" for details on how to create this texture yourself. Basically, each channel you can think of as a black and white texture that represents the amount of Roughness, Metallic and Ambient Occlusion. Then, you use Photoshop or an image editor to bake the channels into a single texture.
