How do I make a 3D animation from blender?

  • Hey soccer_cab,

Lens Studio is particular about how objects are exported before importing into Lens Studio.

Did you follow this 3D Object Export Guide for Blender when exporting the FBX?

    Cheers,
    Kaitlyn

  • I followed the guide for exporting 3D objects using blender and the files in lens studio show an animation file but does not actually animate. The textures are also missing but that's a different problem that I can fix later.

  • Hey soccer_cab, likely the animation is there but just not playing. First, to confirm that the animation did come in correctly, look at your imported object. Near the top of the object's hierarchy, you should see an object that has an "Animation Mixer" component which looks something like this in the Inspector panel.

Animations don't play automatically, you either need to script them to play or you should use the Animated Object Template to playback a simple animation.

For scripting animation playback, follow this guide:

    https://lensstudio.snapchat.com/guides/scripting/playing-3d-animation/

For information on using the Animated Object (which I'd suggest if you're simply playing a looping animation), follow this guide and watch the tutorial video:
