Sounds like your computer is defaulting to your web browser to open up Javascript files. To fix this, you can download a text editor to edit your Javascript files. VSCode or Sublime Text are both great!
Then, you need to make this editor the default editor for Javascript (JS) files on your computer. Take a look at the Windows guide or the Mac guide for more information.
