You likely need to UV map the 3D model of the face to work nicely with the Face Texture. The Face Texture places the face as an oval shape in the center of a square texture. Your UV map of your 3D model will similarly map your UVs to an oval shape in the center of a square texture.
You can easily preview what a Face Texture looks like by creating a new Billboard, creating a new Face Texture and then assigning the Billboard's texture to your newly created Face Texture. This will give you an idea for what your 3D model's UVs can look like.
